About me and my art
“I’m in front of the class and it’s my first talk. I must be about six or seven years old and I’m speaking on jellyfish. I’ve made a big drawing of its life cycle. The teacher says she loves the drawing, but I should look at the class more often and less at my piece of paper.”
one year later ..
"I’m in front of the class and it's my second talk. This one is about dinosaurs and the Big Bang. Life originated in water. Life crept to the shore, and then life got big and fat. Science is simple for a child. I’m looking at the kids with their round faces and our teacher with her triangular dress, and then there’s the rectangular classroom around us, and around that is the world, the universe has folded around the world, but what is around that and what is around that? How can this all exist?”
Excerpt from the lecture performance ‘Marie Bink & The Infinity Games’
Ever since I was a child I’ve been wondering…
Questions like these got me interested in philosophy, science and logic. And they also made me feel blessed to wake up every morning to a mysterious world. I started to make drawings of all my thoughts and observations obsessively, and I never stopped.
Over the years my curiosity led me to work with various media, collaborating with others and within different disciplines. I’ve always been a bit of a thinker and an observer. But lately I tend to be more outspoken and now I’m sharing my ideas in performances, too. My art can be about topics of any kind. I depict them in artistic, often abstract, compositions and frameworks. I like to refer to them as SCAPES.
A SCAPE can be a painting or a performance, but it can just as well be a human being, a planet, a universe, an atom, a society,
a landscape or even an escape. All these SCAPES together make up: an infinite SCAPE, a composition of infinite compositions.
We wander about in INFINITY and INFINITY wanders about in us. And this makes me wonder…
Wonderment drives me to create and explore.
